CAR. RURAL
A young thirties couple are en route to the family rural property when the radio announces a severe storm - and it's coming their way.
They see a sign for a rest area and pull-in.

CAR. REST AREA.
NEAR CREEK. RURAL

The rain and storm is severe.
They hear and see an enormous semi-trailer swerve and just miss other cars.
All they can see is high, wild, dark green grass reeds being blown and pushed; wiped across every window in their car.

Radio Voice: 'The rain is torrential.'
The couple look at each other and voice in agreement...

CAR. RIVERBED. RURAL
When the storm finally passes, they soon realize they have been "moved" by the storm to a river bed...
Amelia and Steven are clutching their bucket seats. Looking out the front windscreen breathing heavily.
After a moment, they are quiet.
Amelia releases her grip and gropes for his hand.
Amelia: 'Let's use the sunroof.'
They can both see the waterline is up to the cars' window sill.
Amelia undoes her seat belt, looks at him then stands up through the sunroof.

CAR ROOFTOP. RURAL
The air is mild and a glimpse of sun.

CAR. RIVERBED. RURAL
Steven hears her phone click and Amelia returns down sitting.
They look at the photo and he gives her a nudge.
Steven: 'Clever.'
She frowns curiously and zooms in.
Steven: 'There's a building. A house?'
Amelia: 'Church.'
They check for water.
Amelia: 'I'll go.' Readies herself again but this time, leans and kisses him then disappears up onto the roof.

CAR ROOFTOP. RURAL
The car is steady.
She positions herself then slides off into the water.

RIVERBED. RURAL
A loud moan.

CAR. RIVERBED. RURAL
All Steven can see is the back of her and her phone arm raised high and she is taken away by debris.

CAR. RIVERBED. RURAL
Seconds seem like hours then his phone rings but reception is poor.
Amelia: 'I'm good... Darling I've... made it to the shore. I'm up and... dry I'm all good.'
She releases her breathe.
Steven feels a tear.
. . .
RIVERBED. RURAL
Amelia helps him up out of the water.
Both standing.
Amelia: 'That building; Church has disappeared.' Starts walking, looking for it.
Steven begins walking, she sees this and follows.

GROUNDS. RURAL
Through thick, stubborn grass and scrub they enter a clearing and a building is ahead.
Amelia: 'Told you it was a Church.'
Steven: 'That is not. It's a building.'

Amelia knocks then they both go around the side and at the back is a man.
Amelia: 'Hi, sorry to disturb.'
Steven: 'We were caught-out in that storm.'
Amelia: 'Doesn't seem like any good reception.'
Steven: 'Can you help us?'
Man: 'No.'
The man's back was to them.
Man: 'You won't get reception here.' Then he turned swinging a pitchfork.
Amelia recoiled, Steven went to protect her and they looked like a statue; with her wrapped around him with her head between his shoulder blades.
The man smiled, held out his hand to greet them.
Man: 'No reception here. Just me.'

LIVING SPACE. RURAL
Inside, having a warm drink.

GROUNDS. RURAL
They walked outside thanking him again and Amelia saw something glint amongst the hedge along the perimeter of his land.
She swayed with comment to look and saw it was a lever on the other side and it was... a weir.

WEIR. RURAL
The lever is jammed, then she sees the welding.
Running her eye along, she sees a cable going into a galvanized tube and in the direction of the Church...

Steven cannot believe his Amelia is going back towards the Church.
She takes a peek inside another building connected to the Church.
There are many large containers woven in thick rope.
Amelia: 'Do you think that's where he keeps the bodies?' Whispers; joking.

CREEK INLET. RURAL
They made their way back to their car, dropped-in via the sun roof.

CAR. RIVERBED. RURAL
They could clearly see they were bogged by way of mud and knots of reeds but as they tried to climb up out again, they looked at each other and in clear horror fell asleep.

CAR. RURAL
Out of the darkness came a grotesque cloth face with sharp, mangled bloodied teeth.
It only took a second for Amelia to scream.
The sound of someone being repeatedly punched then exhaustion.

BUILDING.
CONNECTED TO CHURCH. RURAL

As a solitary sun ray past along the floor, a large container woven in thick rope was sporadically revealed.
Two lots of hands were tied and upward.

Out of the darkness of her vision came a large mass.
It's dull metal eyes slowly encroached.
She could see it was their car. A tow cable attached. Taut.
Her tears stopped and her eyes had resolve.
She twisted this way and that and as she did her fingers touched something behind.
Tried to look but a wood dowel tight across her elbows prevented her.
Breathing heavily through her nostrils, tried again.
This time another touch and Steven's fingers responded.
A moment of hope.

She gestured with her fingers to him to turn around and both did.
She waited for his response to their car.
He re-gripped her fingers to express.
They soon discovered when they swung and lifted up, they could loosen their bindings and were freed.
They could hear footsteps.
They looked for a way out and found one but it was through a glass house; more lengthy building spaces.

GLASS HOUSE. RURAL
As they went through, to their astonishment, it wasn't full of plants but paintings.
Amelia: 'Beautiful.' Whispered.
They reached the other end of the glass house and they could hear the road.
Man: 'I paint with life.' Standing further back surrounded by canvases, shelves and jars with mostly red congealed liquids.
Amelia then Steven saw a Police Patrol car with flashing lights slow and stop on the side of a road. The back of another car just seen.
Man: 'Please don't go.'
They wanted out, got their footing and saw Police Officers on the road.
Man: 'If not from you, from others.' Frankly.

Amelia looked back at him but was distracted by the vivid colours of the paintings; even covering the glass structure.
But what really took-her-eye was the reds trickling down and dripping onto the shelves, floor and twists of wire holding them up.

An attempt at horror drama thriller.
Watching scary and horror on tv when I was young.
Funnily, dad use to paint on the back patio.
Took days to a couple of weeks to complete.
